Around noon on Thursday 2 June, Ian Radford and his crew, Richard Manning and Peter Fischer were on a training exercise aboard Central Coast 21 when a radio call was received from the radio room duty-crew, Mal Ralston and John Donnelan. Central Coast 21 had been tasked by Water Police Marine Area Command to an out of area incident at Clareville in Pittwater. It was reported that a man who had fallen from the third tier of steep waterfront landscaping, had been badly injured. Evacuation by water was necessary because land evacuation was not practical. A Water-police vessel was not immediately available.
Central Coast 21 made all speed to Clareville, but on arrival at 12:30 found that the Water-police were already on site. The injured man was loaded onto the Police vessel and Central Coast 21 was stood down. The radio room was later advised that the man had been admitted to hospital.
