Three Rescues on Weekend 17-18 Sept
Around 2:30 on Saturday 17 Sept 2016, a 27 MHz Marine Radio call for help was received in the Point Clare radio room of Marine Rescue Central Coast. The lone sailor aboard an 8.0m Bayliner Cruiser said he was near Wagstaffe Point and his engine was overheating. Rescue vessel Central Coast 21 with Jim Robertson at the helm and crew of Alan Howes and Karl Liepa was tasked to assist. They located the vessel and it was towed to its berth at Gosford Sailing Club.
The radio room received another 27 MHz call for assistance around 4:00pm from one of the five people onboard a 6.0m runabout at the north end of Paddys Channel. Jim Robertson and his duty crew on Central Coast 21 were again tasked to assist and the runabout was towed to the boat ramp at Lions Park Woy Woy for retrieval.
On Sunday 18 Sept 2016, the duty radio operator at Point Clare received a VHF radio call from one of the two people aboard a Bowrider runabout 6nm to sea off Killcare. The man advised that they could not restart the boat’s motor. Police Marine Area Command was contacted and Broken Bay Water Police were tasked to assist. The boat’s motor was able to be restarted and they were escorted to safety.
