Rolling Hitch

Used to attach a line to a chain, spar or to another rope and is designed to hold under a lengthwise pull. Note that the hitch must be made with the first two turns in the direction of the pull. There are two versions of this knot – the preferred one requires that the second turn should be jammed inside the first turn and overlapping the standing part of the rope as illustrated. As with all knots and hitches, it should be drawn up snugly and the load applied gradually.
